Dilemma, I need some help
Here is my situation for my upcoming 8 month coop term (my last work term before graduating), I need some advice/help on what to do! I really want to get into the research field, but have only 8 months of experience previously, so that’s very hard to do.
I’ve talked to a prof, he’s said he’s willing to have me on his research team, but the pay would be very minimal (enough to cover rent and a bit of food). Money shouldn’t be too much of an issue as I have a line of credit at the bank, with a very decent interest rate. Of course this means going into an 8 month school term I will have no savings, but that means I’ll get a decent amount of student loans and should be able to get a bursary for poor students!
So, lets compare the two (getting a job via Jobmine, vs taking this job)
This Job
Pros:
-Great research job, in a field I want to be in.
-If I ever wanted to do grad school, would def help me get in (I’m still undecided if this is the route I want to take)
-Looks great on a resume
-In Waterloo (no moving, around friends, etc)
Cons:
-Making next to no money
Other Job
Pros:
-Pays probably quadruple or more. Can save a bit for 8 months, and go into school with some savings (HOWEVER this means that I will have less student loan funds available to me, and likely will not receive a bursary)
-Has a chance at being just as good, or MAYBE even better (but unlikely) as the other one, depending on where I actually get a job
-Get to try out living somewhere else
Cons:
-May be stuck in a crap job for 8 months I don’t want (that isn’t relevant, etc)
-May be stuck in a city I don’t want to be in for 8 months
What should I do!!!
